The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) is requesting public comment on a proposal to establish import market access for fresh (green, unhusked) coconut (Cocos nucifera) for consumption from Belize into the United States.  

Fresh coconut from Belize is currently not permitted to enter the United States. However, based on the findings of a recently completed pest risk analysis, APHIS is proposing to allow imports of the Malayan Yellow Dwarf coconut variety under specific safeguarding measures outlined in the risk management document.
