TIME: 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM

Location: 6404 South County Road 39 Plant City, FL 33567

A herd health management plan is vital to profitable beef production. The investment in the prevention of disease is less than the cost of treatment. Losses that are caused by poor herd health represent a major obstacle to the profitably of many cow/calf operations. Poor animal health can result in animal death, decreased reproduction efficiently, and decrease in growth and productivity. Many animal health problems can be controlled with good management, proper nutrition, and vaccination against infectious diseases. Preventing diseases through the use of a herd health management plan saves time and money.

The South Florida Beef Forage Agents are hosting this program to help producers learn more about the components of a herd health plan and proper vaccine management to maximize herd health. Dr. Joao Bittar with the UF/IFAS Veterinary College will discuss vaccine protocol and cow management, the different types of vaccines and when to use each type, and how to prevent vaccine failure.
