Are you new to foresty and land management? Need a good primer on forest management concepts and next steps? Hard to fit workshops in your busy schedule? This course is for you! Forest landowners, and others in need of forest management information are encouraged to enroll in this self-paced, online, 7-module course to connect with forest management experts at the University of Florida- and recieve quality core educational content on forestry and multiple-use stewardship concepts. Forest Landowner Academy

The purpose of the course is to provide quality core educational content on forestry and multiple-use stewardship concepts through the UF/IFAS Extension Online Learning catalog.

Forest landowners will gain comprehensive knowledge and skills related to forest resources that they can use in their land management and planning. Topics include; identifying tree species, pine, hardwood, land use management for both solid wood and pulp products and non-timber forest products. The course also provides information on conservation easements, wildlife habitat and succession planning for your property. The lessons will provide some important background knowledge and context on topics discussed in more detail at Florida Land Steward Program and other partner events and webinars offered each year.

  1. Understanding your forest resources
  2. Developing your management plan
  3. Timber management
  4. Marketing forest products
  5. Other forest enterprises such as pine straw and hunting leases
  6. Wildlife management
  7. Planning for the future

This course will be relevant for Florida landowners as well as those in the neighboring coastal plain regions of GA and AL, maybe MS, LA, eastern TX.  Landowners will build on this course as they receive information and attend educational events offered by the Florida Land Steward Program, forestry extension programs in neighboring states, and other partners.
